Consumers Going Online in Force for Holiday Gift Ideas and Christmas Shopping REG
2005-11-24 09:33 [Médiainfó - www.mediainfo.hu]

This Friday and the following Monday are expected to be the biggest days of the year for online stores as people go Christmas shopping and search for gift ideas in the US.

This Friday, traditionally known as "Black Friday" for the high-sales expectations of the nation's retailers, kicks off the Christmas shopping season. Not only are people flocking to shopping malls for their holiday gift ideas and Christmas shopping, they are also doing some or all of their holiday shopping online.

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, isn't the only big day of Christmas gift buying online. Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving, is rapidly becoming one of the biggest online shopping days of the year.

According to the Shop.org/BizRate Research 2005 eHoliday Mood Study, 77 percent of online retailers reported that their sales increased drastically last year on the Monday after Thanksgiving. This trend has resulted in serious online discounts and promotions on Cyber Monday this year.

"The reason holiday shopping continues to be strong online on the Monday after Thanksgiving is that many consumers tend to have either faster or more secure Internet connections at work," observed Shawn Collins, President of Shawn Collins Consulting, and online marketing agency.

"Shopping for Christmas gifts and browsing for holiday gift ideas continues on the Monday after Thanksgiving because consumers were not able to finish their shopping or they were occupied by houseguests," continued Collins.

Online shopping is gaining in popularity because it can be done from the comfort of your home or office; all of your favorite stores are there, such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Toys R Us; the holiday gifts are shipped to your front door (often the shipping is free); and in many cases, there are better deals online when online shoppers utilize coupon codes.

The BabyLounge Shopping Mall - http://shopping.babylounge.com/ - an online mall featuring free online coupons and deals for over 700 online stores, announced today their top ten online shopping stores for holiday gift shopping online, based on the purchasing habits of online shoppers.

The top ten online shopping stores are as follows:

1. Wal-Mart
2. Best Buy
3. Amazon
4. eBay
5. Sears
6. Target
7. Toys R Us
8. Home Depot
9. Overstock
10. Payless ShoeSource

According to the Shopping in America Holiday 2005 survey, conducted for The Macerich Co., U.S. consumers plan to spend $655 on holiday gifts and an additional $316 for parties, decorations and other seasonal purchases, an increase of 6.3 percent from last year.
